Getting Started
What is SikaNomics?
SikaNomics is a personal finance manager that lets you record income and expense transactions, track what you owe and what is owed to you, set savings and debt-payoff goals, set monthly budgets, and explore deep insights into your financial habits. Everything lives in one simple, privacy-first app.
How do I create an account?
Tap "Get Started" on the homepage or visit the signup page. You can sign up with your email and a password, or use your Google account for one-click registration. We never ask for your bank login.
Is SikaNomics really free?
Yes. SikaNomics is free to use and there are no hidden fees, subscriptions, or paid tiers. You can track transactions, set goals, create budgets, view insights, and read financial articles without paying anything.
Can I use SikaNomics on my phone?
SikaNomics is a responsive web app that works great in any mobile browser. You can also install it to your home screen like a native app for quick access and offline support.
Transactions
How do I add a transaction?
From the Transactions page, tap the "New Transaction" button. Choose whether it is income or an expense, enter the amount, pick a category, optionally add a note or date, and save. It appears in your feed instantly.
Can I track both income and expenses?
Yes. Every transaction is flagged as either income or an expense. Your dashboard shows income, expenses, and your net balance so you always know where you stand.
Can I categorize and search my transactions?
Yes. Assign a category to each transaction, then use search and filters to find specific entries by keyword, category, type, or date range on the Transactions page.
Can I set up recurring transactions?
Absolutely. Use the Recurring page to create repeating transactions (weekly, monthly, etc.) for bills, subscriptions, or income. Recurring rules are turned into real transactions automatically on their scheduled dates, so you never miss a scheduled entry.
How do I edit or delete a transaction?
Open the transaction from your feed, then use the edit button to change any detail or the delete option to remove it. Deleting a transaction permanently removes it from your records.
Can I import my bank statement instead of typing every transaction?
Yes. On the Transactions page tap "Import" and upload a CSV, OFX, or QFX statement from your bank or mobile money app — or paste the text straight in. SikaNomics reads the statement on your device, works out the category for each row, spots anything you already logged, and shows you everything for review. Nothing is saved until you confirm.
What file types can I import?
CSV, TSV, OFX, and QFX files work, as does text pasted from anywhere. If your bank only gives you a PDF, open it, select all the text, and paste it in — rows separated by tabs or spaces are read correctly. Excel files are not supported yet: save the sheet as CSV first.
Will importing the same statement twice double count my money?
No. Every row is checked against your existing transactions on the exact date, amount, direction, and description. Anything identical is marked "Already logged" and skipped, and transfers between your own accounts are spotted and skipped by default, so your balance stays accurate.
I imported the wrong statement. Can I take it back?
Yes. Every import is listed at the bottom of the Import page with an Undo button. One tap removes all the transactions that import added and puts your balance, budgets, goals and reports back where they were. If you have edited any of the imported rows since, those are kept so your correction is not silently thrown away, and we tell you how many were kept.
Can I remove some imported transactions but not all of them?
Yes. On the Transactions page turn on the "From statement" filter to see only rows that came from a statement, then use "Select to delete" to remove just the ones you want. To undo an entire import in one step, use Undo on the Import page instead.
Does SikaNomics upload my bank statement?
No. Your statement is read in your browser and the file is never uploaded. Only the rows you approve are sent, and we store those as normal transactions plus a count-only note of the import (how many rows, which dates) so you can see what happened later. We never ask for your bank login and cannot reach your account.
Goals & Budgets
How do I set a savings goal?
Go to the Goals page and create a savings goal. Set the target amount and deadline, and SikaNomics calculates the monthly target you need to stay on track. Contributions update your progress in real time.
How do I set a debt-payoff goal?
On the Goals page, choose the debt-payoff goal type, enter your current balance and target payoff date, and SikaNomics works out your monthly payment target to help you become debt-free.
What are budgets and how do they work?
Budgets let you set monthly spending limits per category. As you log expenses, SikaNomics shows how much you have left in each budget, warns you before you overspend, and gives you a health score for how well you are sticking to your limits.
How do I track money I lent or borrowed?
Use the Debts & IOUs page. Add a new debt, choose the direction (you lent money out or you borrowed it), the amount and currency, then record every movement on its details page — repayments, extra money lent/borrowed, interest, and write-offs. The outstanding balance updates automatically and the debt is marked settled when it reaches zero.
Does lending or borrowing count as income or an expense?
No. Following accounting principles, principal you lend or borrow is a balance that comes back or gets paid off — it is never income or an expense. SikaNomics keeps these balances separate so they do not distort your income statement. Interest you earn or pay, and write-offs or forgiven debts, ARE income or expense — SikaNomics logs them automatically to your income statement under Interest Earned, Interest Paid, Bad Debt and Debt Forgiven.
Insights & Reports
What insights does SikaNomics provide?
The Insights page breaks down your spending by category, shows daily cash-flow charts, tracks your savings rate over time, and highlights your top spending categories. It also includes smart insights such as unusual spending alerts, recurring-charge detection, your best and worst spending days, and progress nudges toward your goals.
What is the Money Health score?
SikaNomics calculates a Money Health score from 0 to 100 based on your savings rate, recurring charges, budget adherence, income stability, and spending consistency. You will see a grade and a clear trend (improving or declining) so you can tell at a glance how your finances are doing.
Does SikaNomics forecast my finances?
Yes. The Insights page projects your cash flow over the coming months based on your recurring transactions and typical spending, shows your expected savings rate, and flags recurring charges that appear to have stopped so you can decide whether to cancel them.
Can I look at insights for a custom time range?
Yes. Insights support configurable date ranges, so you can view daily, monthly, or custom periods and compare how your finances evolve.
What are spending relationships?
SikaNomics detects correlations between spending categories (for example, eating out rising together with transport costs) and points them out on the Insights page so you can spot linked habits you might not have noticed.
How do I generate a financial report?
Open the Reports page and choose a time range (this month, last month, last 3 or 6 months, this year, all time, or a custom range). Pick the sections you want included, set a display currency, and the report is built instantly from your transactions, budgets, goals, and recurring rules.
What does a report include?
Reports can include a financial summary (income, expenses, net, savings rate), spending by category, a full transaction list, budgets and how you performed against them, goal progress, active recurring transactions, and smart insights like your Money Health score, top merchants, and spending patterns. You can toggle each section on or off.
Can I export or save a report as a PDF?
Yes. Once your report is ready, use the "Save as PDF" button on the Reports page. It prints a clean, print-friendly version you can save, share, or archive.
Can I generate reports for a custom date range?
Yes. Select "Custom range" on the Reports page and set your own start and end dates, so you can pull reports for any period you like, such as a specific month or the whole year.
Can I choose the currency used in a report?
Yes. Each report lets you set a display currency. Transactions stored in other currencies are converted to your chosen currency using current exchange rates before they appear in the report.
Currencies & Exchange Rates
Does SikaNomics support multiple currencies?
Yes. SikaNomics supports 150+ currencies. Set a preferred currency, and amounts are stored and displayed consistently across your account.
How do I change my preferred currency?
How are exchange rates handled?
SikaNomics uses live exchange rates to convert between currencies, so cross-currency amounts reflect current market values. You can also visit the Exchange Rates page to see live rates for major currencies at a glance.
Account, Security & Privacy
Is my financial data secure?
Yes. Your data is protected with industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit. Sign-in supports email/password and Google, and your credentials are handled by secure authentication providers.
Does SikaNomics connect to my bank account?
No. SikaNomics never asks for your bank login and cannot move money on your behalf — you record what happens yourself. That means your banking credentials are never shared with us, and you stay in control of every entry in your ledger.
What happens to the statement file I import?
It is read in your browser and discarded. We never receive the file, your account number, or your balances. If you import by pasting text, that text stays on your device too. The only thing stored is the transactions you approved plus a count-only record of the import — how many rows, which dates, and whether you have undone it. That record contains no statement content and no balances, appears in your data export, and is deleted with your account.
How do I sign out?
Click the sign-out button in the navbar or mobile menu. You will be returned to the login page and can sign back in whenever you like.
What notifications will I receive?
SikaNomics can send you budget alerts when you are close to a limit, goal updates and milestones, reminders when recurring payments are processed, large-transaction alerts, a monthly summary, daily reminders, and exchange-rate updates — by email. Manage everything from the Notifications page.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. From your profile you can permanently delete your account. This removes your account and the data associated with it from SikaNomics.
Can I export my data?
You can request deletion or export of your data at any time. See our Privacy Policy for details on data handling and your rights.
